Padel is a relatively modern sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, and it is now considered one of the fastest-growing games in the world, especially in Europe and the Middle East. Origins It was created in Mexico in 1969 by Enrique Corcuera. The game later spread to Spain and from there across Europe and the world. Court & Equipment The padel court is smaller than a tennis court (about 20m × 10m) and enclosed with glass and mesh walls, allowing the ball to rebound like in squash. The racket is solid (without strings), smaller than a tennis racket, and called a padel bat. The ball is similar to a tennis ball but with slightly lower pressure. How It’s Played Always played as doubles (2 vs 2). Uses the same scoring system as tennis (15 – 30 – 40 – game). Players can use the walls for rebounds, which adds more excitement and tactical depth. Advantages Easy to learn – simpler than tennis for beginners due to the smaller court and slower ball. Suitable for all ages – does not require extreme physical fitness. Social & interactive – doubles format makes it fun and engaging. Rapidly growing – one of the fastest-expanding sports worldwide, with federations and international tournaments.
